The plug-in couldn't to be use on the pre-compose layer.I don't know how to use the expression to tie togeter to keep the floor position lock on!

Just a quick note/fix that I ran into rendering a comp with the reflection plugin "Mirror 1.0.13" on the Mac.

After some A/B testing to identify the culprit, I found setting anything above 0 on the Blur in the Reflect plugin - caused a render failure.

The Easy fix - don't do that.

The Better fix. Render Reflection only. Add a fast blur-type effect processed after the reflection geometry stuff is done. Then CC-Composite as shown in Andrew's tut above.

Not a big deal - but figur'd I should share the trial/error results.

I'm on Mac OX 10.6.2 with 8 GB RAM - and during this testing I tried with and without enabling the disk cache.

Tested using a few decent sized RGB, PNG and PSD, files with alpha. Renders failed with 1500 x 1500 and 3K x 3K sizes...didn't test smaller sizes.

Tested with the native AE renderer and Nucleo Pro...same.

Could you do a tutorial similar to "VC Reflect" except with the reflection on a lake (so you can see the title "VC Reflect", the reflection of "VC Reflect", the ripples in the water affecting the reflection, and the shimmer from the water affecting the title)?

However, I have a small problem. When I apply vc reflect effect to a 3D text layer, when I rotate a camera, reflection behaves strangely, and transforms I guess the opposite it should.

I only created camera, 3D text layer and applied VC reflect to it.

Hey Andrew, great tutorial! However i have a few problems, well one actually, when I double click the plug-in, the after effect tells me: "After Effect Errors: Can't support file"VCRefelct.penguin", unsupported filetype or extension. ( 0 :: 1 ) " so.... yeah.

Hey Andrew, and all you wacky cats at VCP:

I watched about 5 mins of the tutorial when it struck me how useful this will be in creating accurate shadows. With the blur and falloff options especially, better and more realistic shadowing should be available in 3D space, even better if you can link the rotational values to your light source.

Is there any way to associate a custom layer for distortion of the reflected layer, ie, displacement mapping and bump mapping?

I just downloaded Easy Reflections.
WHen I drop it on a 3D layer, I get nothing. No reflections.
The folder went in the plug ins folder and it shows up in my effects presets. However, I get no reflections. I've restarted. I'm on a new iMac intel.
Help!

Actually, without the "fix" that you posed of the precomposition of text to keep the reflection with the text, the animation of text looks realistic. You just pick you "floor point" and then animate your text, and get matching reflections (e.g. falling text with "rising" reflections)
